SUMMARY:King Philip's War: America's Forgotten Conflict
DESCRIPTION:Eric B. Schultz is the author of four books\, including King Philip’s War: The History of Legacy of America’s Forgotten Conflict (with Michael Tougias). He is the former Chair of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and the Gettysburg Foundation\, and currently serves as a Director of the Old Colony History Museum in Taunton. A native of Dighton\, he holds a B.A. in History from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He and his wife\, Susan\, live in Boxford. \nJoin Mr. Schultz for an engaging talk about King Philip’s War. He will detail the history and the lasting legacy of a brutal war that marked a crucial turning point in the battle for control of land in the New World. Both an in-depth history and a guide to the sites where the great ambushes\, raids\, and full-scale battles took place\, it provides insight into a dark and formative period of America’s past. \nThis program is cosponsored by the Sherborn Library and Sherborn Historical Society.  \n  \nRegister via the link below: \nhttps://sherbornma.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/king-philips-war-with-author-eric-schultz-hybrid/

SUMMARY:Sherborn’s “Memorable Mortality:” the Diphtheria Epidemic of 1754
DESCRIPTION:Oregon State University historian Ben Mutschler will help us understand how major epidemics\, as well as lesser ailments common in early America\, impacted everyday life in early New England. Author of Province of Affliction\, Dr. Mutschler’s talk is partially inspired by the recent donation of a 1754 document to the Historical Society that lists Sherborn’s diphtheria victims\, several of whom are buried at the Old South Burying Ground. \nJoin us in the Library’s Community Room to hear about the tenuousness of life before modern medical science\, and see a handful of collection items that hint at how Sherbornites contended with the terribleness of disease—a suitably October theme! \nPlease register to receive the Zoom link (this program is hybrid\, we’ll be zooming in with Dr. Mutschler on the big screen at the Library\, or zoom in from your home:). \nThis program is co-sponsored by the Sherborn Historical Society\, the Sherborn Library and the Sherborn Council on Aging.  \n\nhttps://sherbornma.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/diptheria-epidemic-event-with-shs-hybrid/
