Walter McClennen has written a number of “short histories” on a broad variety of topics pertaining to family, friends, community and issues both social and political. His latest book, Looking East, is a collection of the best of these short histories selected from his writing of the past twenty years. In this presentation, Walter shared what he terms “history adventures” based on, among other things, the birth of a grandchild, the purchase of an antique house, and the discovery of a ribbon-tied packet of letters in a trunk. In Walter’s words, “Each one is its own tale, but each is equally important as an example of good ways to approach “saving history” for future generations. He hopes the audience takes away a new enthusiasm for recording the many personal family and local histories that surround all of us.”
